Have you recently been charged with Driving Under the Influence (DUI)? Are you worried that your DUI will:

Result in a criminal conviction?
Impact your immigration or employment status?
Negatively affect your closest relationships?

Maybe your lawyer has encouraged you to seek counselling to help your case. Perhaps you already saw a therapist, but they didn’t provide court-approved services and didn’t give you the support you needed.

Naturally, you’re probably under a lot of stress right now—but hope is not lost. At Atia Counselling Centre, our counsellors offer court-approved substance abuse counselling for clients facing DUI charges. What To Expect In Our Substance Abuse Counselling Program

woman in counseling

Atia Counselling Centre offers a court-approved Substance Use Therapy Program that is one-on-one, private, and intended for people who have been charged with Driving Under the Influence (DUI). The program is usually eight sessions and four weeks long (two sessions per week), but this may vary depending on the situation and the court’s requirements.

In sessions with us, you can expect a safe, nonjudgemental space where you’ll get the chance to talk about your feelings, thoughts, and experiences. The goal is to help you understand your situation, gain new insights, learn new skills, and walk away with a practical action plan for dealing with substance use. Most importantly, we see you as a person rather than a case. We know that many people who struggle with drug and alcohol addiction have trauma in their past, and that’s why we take a person-centred, trauma-informed approach to therapy.

How Can Atia Counselling Centre Help Me With My Substance Abuse?

In addition to helping you meet court requirements and fulfill all your legal obligations, our Substance Abuse Counselling Program can teach you to regain control of your substance use and develop healthier coping strategies.

Working together, we’ll utilize a wide range of evidence-based approaches to help you overcome unhealthy habits, including Positive Psychology, Solution-Focused Therapy, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy.

Our Substance Abuse Counselling Program is designed to help you:

  • Recognize the triggers that lead to drug or alcohol consumption
  • Understand the effects of drugs and alcohol on the body and brain
  • Explore the consequences of impaired driving
  • Learn healthy alternative habits to drinking and using
  • Develop new stress/anger management skills
  • Create a safety plan that will set you up for future success

Upon completion of the Substance Abuse Counselling Program, you will be given a two-page comprehensive report (not just a simple certification of completion) which is highly regarded in the courts. It will provide a detailed summary of your progress and be sent to your lawyer or paralegal when therapy is done.

Why Should I Choose Substance Abuse Therapy With Atia Counselling Centre?

Few private clinics offer counselling for people facing criminal charges, and as such, people don’t always get access to the quality care they need. And even when programs offer counselling for those facing charges, not all programs meet court requirements.

At Atia Counselling Centre, we are able to provide the right program and report for each person. We stand out from our competitors for many reasons:

  • Reputable and Court-Approved: Our clinic has been offering court-approved counselling and reputable, comprehensive reports since 2008. We have a great reputation in the courts and work with many lawyers throughout Ontario.
  • Knowledgeable and Experienced: All our therapists are registered psychotherapists and social workers who are specially trained in our counselling programs. We are committed to providing excellent, nonjudgemental care.
  • Proven Programs: Our programs are evidence based, rich in content, and practical enough to maximise learning and insights—all in accordance with court standards.
  • Flexible, Convenient, and Efficient: We’re around seven days a week and often have availability on weekends and in the evening. We also provide online therapy to all Ontario residents, ensuring that you don’t have to commute to an office.
