Are You Currently Looking For Therapy Because Of A Criminal Charge?
- Has the possibility of conviction left you anxious about your future?
- Do you feel too overwhelmed to focus on work and other obligations?
Maybe you’ve recently been charged with domestic assault, driving under the influence, or another criminal charge. This could be impacting your employment, immigration status, and overall well being. You might feel distressed, hopeless, embarrassed and ashamed.
Perhaps you’ve been recommended therapy in order to help your case. If this sounds like your situation, we encourage you to contact us. Our therapists specialize in providing court-approved, court-ordered therapy for people facing criminal charges. We want to help you create an action plan for meeting court requirements, developing healthier coping skills, and creating a more hopeful future.
Many People Facing Criminal Charges Have Been Struggling For Years.
While criminal charges are sometimes the result of momentary mistakes, some people who face these situations have been struggling with substance abuse, anger management, and other issues for some time.
It is common for people to struggle alone without getting help for a variety of reasons but one that stands out is the perception of the benefits of therapy and the stigma around mental health. People believe that they should be able to push through their challenges alone.
In reality, however, trying to fix mental health issues on your own often makes the struggle harder and produces little results. It’s like being your own doctor instead of seeking medical attention for a broken arm. Therapists are trained professionals who have studied how to help people with the issues they face in a compassionate and non-judgemental way.

Court-Ordered Therapy Can Help You Meet Your Legal Requirements And Improve Your Mental Health

At Atia Counselling Centre, we believe in providing a safe, judgment-free space and supporting every client we see with care and compassion. We see you as a person, not a case—many of our clients come in with extensive trauma histories, so we understand that there could be a deeper struggle that brought you to where you are today. In addition to meeting court requirements and providing a detailed report of your progress, we’ll give you a chance to talk about your struggles and get the benefits of one-on-one therapy.
Our team of mental health therapists are experts in their field and have been providing court-approved therapy since 2008. Our comprehensive and proven report is court-recognized all over the province and fulfills the necessary legal requirements. We have programs that cover many charges, just to name a few:
- Assault
- Domestic Assault (PAR equivalent program)
- Driving Under the Influence (DUI)
- Criminal Harassment
- Sexual Harassment
- Theft
- Fraud
Most importantly, we have a track record of success with many clients who’ve come from other programs that didn’t meet court requirements. We are confident that we can help you find success, too.
How The Court-Ordered Counselling Process Works
Therapy at Atia Counselling Centre is private, client-centred, and one-on-one. We focus on your needs exclusively and make sure that you get the results you need. The basic process for working with us can be outlined in four steps:
- You’ll have a consultation with Mark Atia (our practice owner and clinical director) to understand your situation and legal requirements and determine the right program for you (most programs are between 8 to 12 sessions).
- Mark will contact your lawyer or paralegal to let them know that you’ve begun therapy.
- You’ll meet your therapist and have your first session.
- You’ll complete the rest of your therapy sessions (most programs are between 8-12 sessions), and then a tailored and comprehensive report discussing your insights and achievements will be sent to your lawyer or paralegal for use in court.

The Benefits Of Court-Approved Therapy
We have a successful track record of helping clients meet court requirements, and we’re happy to say that the benefits of our programs go far beyond that. Depending on what kind of events led to your charges, we can provide mindfulness practices, conflict-resolution strategies, and many other solution-focused skills.
Our therapists draw from a wide range of approaches, including Positive Psychology, Motivational Interviewing, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy.
Listed below are some of the practical benefits of our programs:
- Convenient virtual sessions that are one-on-one
- Services offered to all individuals across the province
- Sessions are available seven days a week, including evenings and weekends
- Qualified, registered and experienced therapists
- Confidential and private sessions
- Timely completion
- Insurance-covered, HST-exempt service
Whether you are seeking court-ordered counselling for domestic assault, a DUI, or any other criminal charges, our team of experts is here to help. Not only will we provide you with a detailed, court-recognized report demonstrating your progress, but we’ll also give you new coping skills so that you walk away from therapy with a real sense of hope.
